1990

Pioneering the Vision
Laura U’Ren, a classified professional from Irvine Valley College, introduced the concept of Classified Senates at the CCLC Annual Convention, laying the foundation for future statewide collaboration.

1991

First Steps Toward Organization
At the CCLC Annual Conference, the first organizational meeting was held. The state was divided into four sections, and Tamara Carnine (Irvine Valley College) was selected as the key contact.

1992

Formalizing the Mission
At the Staff Diversity Conference in March, the following milestones were achieved:

  • A phone tree was established for communication.
  • Officers and representatives were selected.
  • Goals and purposes were defined.
  • The Ad Hoc California Community College Classified Senate was officially formed.

SAC), Lena Newman (Butte), Sally Smith (San Bernardino Valley), Craig Stenvall (Butte), Catherine Swenson (Sierra), Cari Plyley (Butte).

In November, the first 4CS Constitution and Bylaws were drafted by the Ad Hoc Committee.

1993

Gaining Momentum
At the CCLC Annual Convention in November, delegates from classified senates statewide ratified the first 4CS Constitution and Bylaws, marking an important step in formalizing the organization.

1994

First Official Board Elected
In November, the first Executive Board of the California Community Colleges Classified Senate (4CS) was elected.
David Viar, Executive Director of the CCLC, installed the newly elected officers.
